Anaheim, Calif. Edward Cabrera delivered his best outing of the season on Sunday afternoon, striking out 10 batters over 5 2/3 innings to lead the Miami Marlins to a 3-0 shutout win over the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium.

The right-hander earned his first win of the season, giving up just three hits and two walks in his eighth start. Cabrera’s performance matched his longest outing this year and was supported by timely offense from Jesús Sánchez, Javier Sanoja, and Connor Norby.

Miami scored in three straight innings to build a lead against Angels starter Kyle Hendricks (2-6), who allowed three runs on seven hits through six innings. The Angels mustered just three hits total and struck out 15 times, unable to find rhythm against Cabrera and three Miami relievers.

Ronny Henriquez secured the final three outs to notch his first career save.

The scoring began in the third, when Sanoja lifted a sacrifice fly to score the game’s first run. In the fourth, Otto Lopez reached on a single, stole second, and was brought home by Norby’s two-out RBI single to make it 2-0.

The Marlins added their third and final run in the fifth after back-to-back doubles by Sanoja and Sánchez.

Pivotal Moment:

With two runners on in the sixth, the Angels threatened to cut into the deficit. Taylor Ward nearly changed the game with a deep drive down the left-field line — but it landed just foul. On the very next pitch, Miami reliever Anthony Bender struck Ward out to end the inning and preserve the shutout.

By the Numbers:

The Marlins improved to 8-15 on the road with their first road series win of the year.

It was also their fifth series victory overall this season.

Cabrera’s 10 strikeouts set a new season high.

On Deck:

The Angels will stay home to host the New York Yankees on Monday, with Jack Kochanowicz (3-5, 5.03 ERA) set to start.

The Marlins head to San Diego to face the Padres, with lefty Ryan Weathers (1-0, 1.80 ERA) taking the mound against his former team.
