Queens, NY — Pete Alonso and Jared Young blasted two-run homers in the opening frame, sparking the New York Mets to a 6-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night. This marked the Mets’ fourth consecutive game in which they came from behind to secure the win.

Starting pitcher Tylor Megill (4-4) shook off a rough first inning to settle in, allowing just two runs over 5⅔ innings. His strong outing helped the Mets (34-21) reach a season-best mark of 13 games above .500, celebrating their 14th come-from-behind triumph this season.

Miguel Vargas powered the White Sox with a solo home run and three RBIs, including a clutch double off the left-field wall in the seventh inning that nearly tied the game.

After Megill gave up Vargas’ two-run homer in the first, the Mets quickly responded with a flurry of offense. Despite a confusing base-running blunder that robbed Juan Soto of a hit, New York sent ten batters to the plate against Chicago’s Jonathan Cannon (2-6). Alonso broke through with his 11th homer of the year — his second in three games following a lengthy slump that was the longest of his career.

Brett Baty followed with a single, and Jared Young launched his third career home run to push the Mets ahead 4-2. Young also contributed a double that set the stage for Jeff McNeil’s sacrifice fly in the third inning.

Francisco Lindor chipped in an RBI single in the eighth, extending the Mets’ lead.

The White Sox narrowed the gap to 5-4 in the seventh thanks to a run-scoring passed ball and Vargas’ timely double. However, José Castillo struck out rookie Edgar Quero with two runners on to escape the inning unscathed.

Reed Garrett closed the game by recording five outs for his second save in three appearances.

Turning Point:

Megill was replaced after loading the bases with two outs in the sixth inning. Lenyn Sosa then sent a line drive into left-center field, but McNeil’s running catch ended Chicago’s threat.

Notable Fact:

Young’s homer was his first hit since being promoted to the Mets last Saturday, and his first major league home run since September 2023 when he played for the Cubs.

Looking Ahead:

The series finale between the Mets and White Sox has been moved up to 1:10 p.m. Wednesday due to rain. Rookie right-hander Shane Smith (1-3, 2.26 ERA) will start for Chicago, while New York counters with Griffin Canning (5-1, 2.88 ERA).
