Brooklyn, NY — The New York Liberty unleashed a record-tying barrage from beyond the arc and crushed the Connecticut Sun 100–52 on Sunday, marking one of the most lopsided victories in WNBA history.

New York drilled 19 three-pointers — equaling their own league record set just days ago — in a performance that reasserted their dominance early in the Commissioner’s Cup competition. The 48-point win also set a new Liberty franchise record and became the second-largest margin of victory in WNBA history, behind only Minnesota’s 59-point win over Indiana in 2017.

Sabrina Ionescu paced the Liberty with 18 points, while Jonquel Jones added a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Breanna Stewart and Leonie Fiebich each contributed 13 points as well. The quartet did their damage early and were given the fourth quarter off with the game long out of reach.

With the win, the Liberty improved to 7-0 — their best start since the league’s inaugural season in 1997.

New York came out firing, dominating Connecticut 31–13 in the opening quarter, with all points coming from the team’s core four. The Liberty’s offensive onslaught didn’t slow down in the second, as they built a 60–28 halftime lead while shooting an eye-popping 68% from the floor, including 12 threes before the break.

By the end of the third quarter, the Liberty had 18 triples — threatening to break their own newly set record — but cooled off in the final period, making just one more.

Even with a massive lead, the Liberty maintained focus. When a foul was called on Ionescu for contesting a three-point shot, head coach Sandy Brondello challenged the play — and won. Ionescu’s energetic celebration, sprinting to high-five the bench, highlighted the team’s competitive edge and chemistry.

The game also served as the Liberty’s first Commissioner’s Cup contest of the season. They reached the Cup final in 2023 before falling to the Minnesota Lynx but later went on to win the WNBA title — a feat they seem eager to repeat, if not exceed.

Connecticut, now 1-6, was led by Tina Charles and Jacy Sheldon, who each scored 10 points. But they had few answers for a Liberty team firing on all cylinders.

New York wraps up a grueling stretch of four games in six days with a few days of rest ahead of their next contest Thursday on the road against Washington.
