Bronx, NY — Jazz Chisholm Jr. made a strong return to the lineup Tuesday night, launching a go-ahead home run after nearly a month sidelined with an oblique strain, as the New York Yankees edged the Cleveland Guardians 3–2 at Yankee Stadium. The win marked the Yankees’ 11th in their last 14 games.

After missing 28 games, Chisholm wasted little time making an impact. With the game knotted at 1-1 in the seventh, he turned on a fastball from Guardians starter Tanner Bibee and sent it just over the wall in right-center, giving the Yankees the lead. Just six pitches later, Anthony Volpe followed with a solo shot of his own to left, as New York went back-to-back for the fifth time this season.

Carlos Rodón continued his recent dominance, picking up his eighth win of the season and seventh in a row. The left-hander cruised through seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out eight. He carried a streak of 17 consecutive batters retired into the seventh before José Ramírez singled and later scored on a David Fry RBI knock past second baseman DJ LeMahieu.

Rodón worked out of a jam in that frame, stranding Guardians at the corners to preserve the Yankees’ lead.

In the ninth, Devin Williams took over closing duties with Luke Weaver sidelined by a hamstring injury. It wasn’t without drama—Carlos Santana doubled, and Daniel Schneemann came through with an RBI single—but Williams held on, retiring Bo Naylor on a flyout to secure his sixth save in seven tries.

Chisholm also contributed early, singling in the fifth and scoring on a LeMahieu RBI base hit for the Yankees’ first run. Defensively, Chisholm, now manning third base with LeMahieu taking over at second, made a highlight-worthy throw from foul ground to nab Angel Martínez in the third.

Bibee (4–6) took the loss despite a solid effort. He threw a season-high 107 pitches, allowing just four hits and three runs across 6 1/3 innings. His struggles with the long ball continued—he’s now surrendered 14 homers this year, with 11 of them coming on the road.

Notably, Fry made his first start as designated hitter since undergoing Tommy John surgery last November. The Guardians’ postseason hero from last year’s ALCS Game 3 went 1-for-3 and knocked in a run.

A brief scare came in the sixth inning when Aaron Judge dropped a fly ball near the right-field corner. However, a video review determined that fans had interfered, negating the play.

Looking Ahead: The series continues Wednesday as Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt (2–2) takes the mound against Cleveland’s Luis Ortiz (2–6).
