WASHINGTON, DC — Brittney Sykes poured in 28 points, going 14-of-15 from the free-throw line, as the Washington Mystics cruised to a commanding 104-67 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.
Rookies Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Sug Sutton chipped in 10. Shakira Austin added 14 points off the bench, and Aaliyah Edwards followed with 13, rounding out a balanced offensive effort for the Mystics (4-6), who led from start to finish.
Washington turned in an impressive shooting display, hitting 57% from the field (36-for-63) and handing out 24 assists. The team also capitalized at the charity stripe, converting 26 of 37 attempts. It marked the Mystics’ first 100-point performance since the 2023 season.
On the other side, the Sun (2-7) shot just 39% (26-for-66) and went 8-of-9 from the line. They struggled to keep pace in nearly every facet of the game, especially on the glass, where they were outrebounded 42-22.
The Mystics dominated inside, outscoring Connecticut 56-24 in the paint.
Tina Charles led the Sun with 17 points, while Marina Mabrey and reserve Jacy Sheldon each contributed 15.

Sunday’s game was notable for veteran Haley Peters, who made her first career WNBA start at age 32. Peters, undrafted out of Duke in 2014, had previously played with San Antonio, Washington, and Atlanta. Her debut start made her the oldest first-time starter since Mario Jones in 2010.
The Mystics took control early, breaking a 4-4 tie with a 10-0 run fueled by five different scorers. By halftime, Washington had stretched its lead to 50-36, with Sykes leading the way with nine points. The Mystics opened the second half with an 11-2 run and ended the game on a 16-2 surge to seal the blowout.
