Bronx, NY— In a game full of momentum swings and clutch hitting, the New York Yankees pulled off a dramatic 5–4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night, thanks to an 11th-inning walk-off single by recently acquired Ryan McMahon.
McMahon, who joined the Yankees just last week in a trade with Colorado, delivered the game-winner with a deep shot to center that scored the automatic runner and sealed a thrilling victory at Yankee Stadium.
A Game of Comebacks
The Yankees needed late heroics from several players to stay alive:
Trent Grisham tied the game at 1–1 in the 8th with a leadoff solo homer — his career-best 18th of the season.
In the bottom of the 9th, after the Rays had taken a 3–2 lead on a Josh Lowe two-run homer off Devin Williams, Anthony Volpe answered with a solo shot of his own to tie it once again.
After Tampa Bay briefly reclaimed the lead in the 10th with a Jonathan Aranda sac fly, Cody Bellinger responded with an RBI triple to knot the game at 4–4.
Costly Mistakes & Key Plays
The turning point in extra innings came when Rays reliever Kevin Kelly (0–3) was called for a balk, advancing the automatic runner and Bellinger to second and third with no outs in the 11th. With the outfield drawn in, McMahon launched the decisive fly ball just short of the warning track.

Yankees reliever Tim Hill (4–3) earned the win with a scoreless top of the 11th, highlighted by McMahon’s leaping snag at third to rob Josh Lowe of a potential leadoff hit.
Other Highlights
Giancarlo Stanton chipped in with an RBI single in the 8th to help spark the Yankees’ late push.
Jasson Domínguez made a spectacular leaping catch at the wall in the 10th, keeping the game within reach.
Brandon Lowe, back from the injured list, opened the scoring with an RBI double in the 3rd for Tampa Bay.
Rays’ Slide Continues
The loss drops Tampa Bay (54–55) below .500 for the first time since May 24. The Rays are just 8–20 since June 27, a sharp decline following a red-hot 25–9 stretch earlier in the season.
Meanwhile, the Yankees stay within four games of first-place Toronto in the AL East.
