CHARLESTON, S.C. — Wofford strung together its third consecutive win on Saturday, edging past The Citadel 16–14 behind a decisive fourth-quarter touchdown and a resilient defensive stand in the closing minutes.
The turning point came on the first snap of the final quarter. Gerald Modest powered in from two yards out, finishing off an 86-yard march that took 11 plays and pushed the Terriers (5–6, 4–3 Southern Conference) ahead 16–7.
The Bulldogs (4–7, 3–4) refused to fold. Quarterback Quentin Hayes guided a 61-yard response drive, capping it with an 11-yard scoring run to trim the deficit to two possessions with five minutes remaining. But Wofford’s defense delivered when it mattered most.

With The Citadel threatening late, Eli Campbell stepped in front of a Hayes pass at the Terriers’ 21-yard line with just under two minutes left. The Bulldogs’ final drive stalled on downs, sealing the victory for Wofford.
Modest was the workhorse for the Terriers, compiling 99 rushing yards on 13 attempts. Quarterback J.T. Fayard completed 18 of 34 passes for 210 yards, including a touchdown to C.J. Adams, while kicker Sam Spence added a 29-yard field goal.
For The Citadel, Hayes accounted for much of the offense, throwing for 153 yards and adding 78 on the ground. Jihad Marks led all receivers with 107 yards and a touchdown.
