Miami Gardens, Fla. — Carson Beck hasn’t been at Miami long, but he’s already rewriting the program’s history.

The senior quarterback was nearly flawless on Saturday night, completing his first 15 passes to set a new single-game school record and finishing 22 of 24 for 264 yards and two touchdowns in No. 5 Miami’s 45–3 win over Bethune-Cookman.

The previous mark of 14 straight completions had belonged to Vinny Testaverde, set in 1986.

“Performing at a high level and doing something like that is really cool,” Beck said.

Precision Passing, No Turnovers

Both of Beck’s touchdown throws went to CJ Daniels, who scored from 40 yards and 5 yards out. Beck extended his personal streak to 185 consecutive pass attempts without an interception, dating back to last season at Georgia.

Head coach Mario Cristobal praised his quarterback’s steady rise.

“He just keeps improving,” Cristobal said. “There’s hunger for growth every week. He wants to get better, he wants Miami to get better, and he’s all about the team.”

Fast Start, Early Substitutions

Miami (2–0) raced out to touchdowns on its first five possessions, then waved in backups after halftime.

Mark Fletcher Jr. scored twice on the ground, while Marty Brown and Girard Pringle added rushing touchdowns as well.

Bethune-Cookman (0–2) managed its only points on a 32-yard field goal by Juan Dominguez. Quarterback Timmy McClain went 13 of 15 for 86 yards.

Targeting Calls End Nights Early

Each team lost a defensive starter to targeting:

  • Miami linebacker Wesley Bissainthe was ejected on the game’s opening series.
  • Bethune-Cookman safety Jordan Johnson was flagged in the third quarter and will miss the first half next week.

The Takeaway

Bethune-Cookman:
The Wildcats have opened their season in the Miami area and have been outscored 87–12 in two games. Through 119 offensive plays this season, they have only four field goals and no touchdowns.

Miami:
The Hurricanes moved to 8–0 all-time against Bethune-Cookman. This win kicks off a stretch of four straight games against in-state opponents, including South Florida next week and a visit from Florida on Sept. 20, before ACC play begins at Florida State on Oct. 4.

Record Watch, Round Two

Beck has another milestone in his sights. His former offensive coordinator at Georgia, Mike Bobo, holds a personal record of 19 consecutive completions from his playing career.

Bobo ribbed Beck by text earlier in the week, telling him not to break it. Beck admitted he was thinking about that while stacking completions — and was a bit annoyed when No. 16 just missed.

“It was awesome,” Beck said. “The receivers were making plays and the offensive line gave me all day.”
