New York, NY–The feel of 90’s R&B filled the air Friday night at one of New York’s most classic music venues, the legendary SOB’s. Since the opening of its doors in 1982, the Sound Of Brazil has been the multicultural home to some of music’s most prominent artists celebrating Afro-Latino heritage and embracing all genres.

Musical icons such as “The King of Latin Music” Tito Puente, “The Queen of Salsa” Celia Cruz to today’s famed contemporary artists Jill Scott, Kendrick Lamar, and Cardi B all have made their mark on its historical stage. This evening’s theme brought special honor to the soulful, grown, and sexy era of 90’s R&B with Lenny Green host of WBLS’s the Quiet Storm hosting the melodious affair.

Kicking off the savory showcase was Las Vegas independent singing sensation Tymara Walker enlivening the crowd with her phenomenal vocals to renditions of Shanice’s “I love Your Smile” and Floetry’s “Say Yes“. Featuring her skills as background vocalist for the iconic Ms.Chaka Khan, this imminent songstress is clearly on the cusp of greatness with her eloquent, mesmerizing tone.

Following the raising performer were the silky smooth voices of Philly’s own Grammy nominated duo Helen Bruner and Terry Jones performing fire tracks off their soon to be released album 2nd Overture including jamming singles “I Can’t Call It“, “Better” and sultry track “Deeper” engaging the mature crowd. These beauties have been vetted in the music industry for years touring internationally, bossing up with their own music company Philerzy Entertainment and working on the executive board for the Recording Academy. Unquestionably, the best is yet to come for this sagacious pair.

Ensuing the lovely divas was the alluring ranges of Chinah Blac and her Frequency ensemble captivating listeners with her rapturous playlist of hits including SWV’s “Rain On Me” mixing in an enchanting version of Jill Scott’s millennium smash hit “He Loves Me” swaying the audience. Flexing her radiant contralto as she does while also leading background for the impeccable Chaka Khan nearly mimicking her tone, set the mood just perfectly for the evening’s headliner.

Christopher Williams graced the stage rocking his velvety baritone vocals to all time hits “Every Little Thing U Do”, “Promises” and 1991 Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop number one classic “I’m Dreamin” taking it back to the invigorating essence of that true old school R&B flavor. During a brief intermission, the seasonally sexy crooner thanked his longtime fans for their support and prayers of his triumphant recovery from medical conditions that nearly took his life, visibly grateful and in his element coming full circle in his light. Continuing his 2023 scheduled performances, the favored singer/actor will be starring as Bishop Mason in new hit stageplay “Drama In Da Church” in Hopewell, VA’s Beacon theatre June 3rd.
