Brooklyn, NY—-The New York Mavericks capped off their first-ever PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series homestand in thrilling fashion on Saturday night in Brooklyn, New York. In a major upset, the New York Mavericks secured an electrifying 85.75-0 victory over the previously undefeated Florida Freedom.
The Mavericks set the tone early, with Hudson Bolton’s smooth ride on Whip in the third round proving decisive. With both teams struggling to score in the fourth, the Freedom found themselves in a must-ride situation in the final round. John Crimber, a top contender for the 2024 PBR Teams MVP, couldn’t rise to the occasion, bucking off Ridin’ Salty after 5.97 seconds. This sealed the victory for New York.
This marks the second time this season that New York has bested Florida, having previously defeated them at the Freedom’s home event in Sunrise, Florida. The Mavericks ended PBR Maverick Days with a perfect 2-0 record, improving their season standing to 4-5 and climbing from No. 10 to No. 8 in the PBR Teams rankings. The Freedom, now also at 4-5, dropped from No. 6 to No. 7 after a 1-1 finish in Brooklyn.
Elsewhere in the competition, Jose Vitor Leme once again demonstrated his clutch abilities, leading the Austin Gamblers to a dramatic walk-off win against the Missouri Thunder, 220.5-176.5. The game was tight throughout, with Austin holding a slim 50-0 lead going into the fourth round. Despite Missouri briefly taking the lead with a ride from Briggs Madsen, Austin quickly regained control as Ramon de Lima delivered a crucial ride.
Missouri’s final hope rested on Paulo Eduardo Rossetto, who delivered an impressive 88.25-point ride on Tijuana Two-Step to put them ahead. However, Leme, the two-time PBR World Champion and the No. 1 overall pick in the inaugural 2022 Draft, clinched the win for Austin with an 85.25-point ride on The Judge.
The Gamblers finished Maverick Days with a 1-0 record, advancing to 5-3 for the season and moving up to No. 2 in the rankings. Meanwhile, Missouri’s 0-1 finish dropped them to 3-6, causing them to slip from No. 8 to No. 9.
In another notable match, the 2022 PBR Teams champions, the Nashville Stampede, dominated the reigning champions, the Texas Rattlers, with a decisive 345.25-0 victory. Nashville’s strong showing, with successful rides from Alan de Souza, Ednelio Almeida, Cody Teel, and Silvano Alves, left the Rattlers scoreless.
The Stampede concluded the event with a 2-0 record, improving to 5-4 this season and jumping from No. 7 to No. 4 in the rankings. On the other hand, the Rattlers, who were shut out at the Barclays Center, fell to 2-7 and dropped from No. 9 to No. 10.
The Kansas City Outlaws also found success in Brooklyn, defeating the Arizona Ridge Riders 172.5-86.75 in their first meeting of the season. Late-game rides by Brennon Eldred and Sandro Batista sealed the win, with Arizona’s Eduardo Aparecido providing the only score for the Ridge Riders.
The Outlaws finished Maverick Days with a 1-1 record, maintaining their No. 3 spot in the league with a 5-4 season record. Arizona, after going 0-2 in New York, slipped from No. 5 to No. 6 in the rankings, also standing at 4-5 for the season.
The weekend concluded with an exhilarating Shootout Round featuring one rider from each of the winning teams. The Gamblers’ Jose Vitor Leme delivered a remarkable 91.25-point ride on John 14:6 to win the round.
