College Park, Ga. — Guard Rhyne Howard scored a season-high 33 points, becoming the first Atlanta Dream player since 2013 to record consecutive 30-point games, as the Dream beat the Dallas Wings 107-96 in overtime on Friday night.
Howard, coming off a 31-point performance against Phoenix earlier in the week, sealed her 30-point game with a free throw that gave Atlanta a 92-90 lead with 19 seconds remaining in regulation.
On Dallas’ final possession, Arike Ogunbowale missed a 3-point attempt, and after Teaira McCowan’s offensive rebound and missed follow-up, Jacy Sheldon recovered the loose ball. It eventually ended up in Natasha Howard’s hands, who hit a jumper near the free-throw line to tie the game.
Despite trailing by as much as 16 points, Atlanta (12-22) dominated overtime, outscoring Dallas 15-4.
In overtime, Howard drained a key trey with three minutes left, putting Atlanta up by six. Tina Charles extended the lead to 104-96 with a hook shot after the Dream secured three offensive rebounds in a single possession.
Howard, who shot 12 of 26 from the field, including 6 of 17 from beyond the arc, matched Angel McCoughtry’s streak of 30-point games. Charles contributed with 20 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists.
Allisha Gray added a 3-pointer in overtime, finishing with 19 points for Atlanta. Naz Hillmon scored 18 points, while Jordin Canada posted 15 points and 10 assists.
