Ames, Iowa — No. 14 Iowa State kept its perfect season rolling with a decisive 39–14 victory over Arizona on Saturday night at Jack Trice Stadium. Quarterback Rocco Becht powered the Cyclones’ offense, rushing for three touchdowns while throwing for 243 yards, as ISU improved to 5–0 overall and 2–0 in Big 12 play.

Cyclones Dominate Early

Iowa State wasted little time asserting control, building a 36–7 lead by midway through the third quarter. Becht completed 14 of 20 passes, while his legs did the rest — punching in three short touchdown runs, including two set up by explosive plays through the air.

Running back Carson Hansen also found the end zone, giving the Cyclones balance in the red zone, while tight end Ben Brahmer delivered one of the game’s highlights. Lined up for a trick play, Brahmer took an inside handoff before launching a 45-yard pass to Brett Eskildsen, setting up Becht’s third rushing touchdown.

Sowell Breaks Out

The night belonged in part to wide receiver Chase Sowell, who posted a career-best 146 receiving yards on four catches. His big-play ability kept Arizona’s secondary off balance, with receptions of 43, 32, and 52 yards.

“Coaches have told me many times that I could make an impact,” Sowell said. “To see my teammates rally behind me like that was amazing.”

Head coach Matt Campbell praised his wideout: “His ability to elevate in big moments is impressive. He’s put in the work, and it’s great to see it pay off.”

Arizona Struggles to Find Rhythm

The Wildcats (4–1, 0–1 Big 12) never recovered from a slow start. Their first five possessions ended with a missed field goal, three punts, and an interception. Quarterback Noah Fifita battled, finishing 32 of 48 for 253 yards and two touchdowns, but the Wildcats couldn’t match Iowa State’s efficiency.

“We had moments of toughness, but it wasn’t nearly enough against a top-15 opponent,” Arizona coach Brent Brennan admitted.

Takeaways

Iowa State: The Cyclones’ offense was versatile, with Becht, backup Connor Moberly, and Brahmer combining to complete 15 of 22 passes for 288 yards. That production came against a defense that entered the night ranked No. 1 nationally in pass efficiency.

Arizona: Execution issues defined the night. Costly early drives with no points put the Wildcats in a hole they couldn’t climb out of.
