Phoenix, AZ — Devin Booker was in full command Sunday night, scoring 28 points and dishing out 13 assists as the Phoenix Suns handed the San Antonio Spurs their first loss of the season, a 130–118 victory at Footprint Center.

Phoenix (now 3–4) rode a blistering shooting performance to its second straight win, hitting 14 of its first 20 three-point attempts and building a lead that swelled to 31 points midway through the third quarter.

Grayson Allen and rookie Ryan Dunn each added 17 points, while Collin Gillespie led the Suns’ reserves with 15, part of a 50-point effort from the bench.

Suns Stay Red-Hot from Deep

The Suns took control early, opening up a 70–52 halftime lead after shooting a staggering 11-for-15 from beyond the arc in the first half. Booker set the tone with 14 points and nine assists before the break, slicing through the Spurs’ defense and finding open shooters on the perimeter.

Phoenix’s offense never slowed, even as San Antonio made a late push. The Spurs trimmed the deficit to 111–97 with 6:24 remaining, but the Suns immediately countered with an 11–0 run to put the game out of reach.

Wembanyama Cooled Off

After a dominant five-game stretch to open the season, Victor Wembanyama finally looked human. The 7-foot-4 star was held to nine points on 4-of-14 shooting, his lowest scoring output in nearly a year, while committing six turnovers. He did grab nine rebounds, but never found his offensive rhythm against Phoenix’s swarming defense.

Before Sunday, Wembanyama had averaged 30.2 points and 14.6 rebounds through San Antonio’s 5–0 start. His previous single-digit game came on Oct. 30, 2024, when Oklahoma City limited him to six points.

Spurs’ Bright Spots

Rookie guard Stephon Castle led San Antonio with 26 points, while Keldon Johnson added 19 off the bench. Despite those contributions, the Spurs’ defense struggled to contain Phoenix’s ball movement and perimeter shooting.

San Antonio (5–1) played without De’Aaron Fox (hamstring) and Luke Kornet (ankle), both of whom missed their second straight games.

Booker’s Commanding Night

Booker was nearly flawless, going 10-for-15 from the field while orchestrating the Suns’ offense with ease. His 13 assists were a season high, and his energy seemed to spark a team still finding its rhythm under coach Frank Vogel.

Phoenix also played shorthanded, with Jalen Green (hamstring) and Dillon Brooks (core strain) unavailable.

“This was the kind of basketball we’ve been working toward — unselfish, fast, and confident,” Booker said. “When we move the ball like that, we’re tough to stop.”
