CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — In preseason football, it’s a cliché for coaches to talk about “getting better every day.” But that daily improvement is often what separates strong starts from season-long struggles. At Boston College, that mantra rang especially true this weekend.

After a physically intense practice on Saturday, the Eagles returned to the field Sunday morning with a focused, workmanlike approach — and it showed. With just under four weeks until the season opener against Fordham, the team’s effort and attitude are clearly taking shape.

The defense continues to impress with its speed and physicality, while both lines have had strong moments. The quarterback battle remains highly competitive, elevating play across all offensive units — especially the tight ends.

Here’s how Day 4 unfolded at Fish Field House:

NFL Scouts in Attendance

A scout from the Dallas Cowboys was spotted during early stretching and individual drills. The Giants and Jets have also reportedly been through in recent days, keeping a close eye on the Eagles’ talent.

Team Period 1 Highlights

Grayson James: Opened with a short completion to Anthony Ferrucci (well-defended by freshman LB Griffin Collins), followed by solid run stops by Bryce Steele and Kwan Williams. James also connected with Alex Broome on a swing pass, though it ended with a major facemask penalty by Ashton Cunningham.

Dylan Lonergan: Hit Reed Harris on a dart up the seam and helped generate a big gain on a trick run. Jordan McDonald picked up five yards on a carry before Owen Stoudmire blew up a screen behind the line.

Team Period 2

James: Turbo Richard took a tough hit from Carter Davis, and Lewis Bond made a sideline grab off a tipped ball from Isaiah Farris. Favor Bate shut down a run outside, and a chunk gain to Kaelan Chudzinski off play-action capped the series.

Lonergan: Alex Broome had a great bounce-out run, followed by a scramble and a hard finish. Ty Clemons notched a sack, and Omar Thornton laid a hit on McDonald. A big seam throw to Jeremiah Franklin wrapped up a strong sequence.

Enzo Arjona: Mekhi Dodd flashed with a pair of strong runs on the adjacent field.

Field Goal Period – Still a Question Mark

The kicking battle remains unsettled and shaky overall.

Liam Connor: Up and down, including a shank and a blocked attempt (despite no rush).

Luca Lombardo: Most consistent, hitting 3 of 4 attempts cleanly.

Sam Stone: Nailed all three of his kicks, though one just barely cleared the bar.

With 27 days until kickoff, this may remain undecided deep into camp.

7-on-7 Period

James: Connected with Brady Clough, McDonald, and Ismael Zamor in a tight sideline window. Jaedn Skeete beat his man for a deep post touchdown.

Lonergan: Targeted Harris frequently, including a likely TD if not for a PI. Bond and Clough also made catches before an incomplete pass to Dawson Pough, who slipped on his route.

Third Team Period (Situational Focus)

James: Mixed results with short throws to Franklin and Lockwood; a few incompletions, including one with the receiver slipping.

Lonergan: Had a throw batted and took a “sack” by Chris Marable Jr.

Arjona: Connected with Chudzinski and freshman Stevie Amar Jr.; Dodd had a solid run; Isaiah Farris had a PBU on a crossing route.

Final Team Period

James: Faced a PBU from Marcelous Townsend, a false start, and a low snap from Tommy Matheson (Princeton transfer). Had two good runs from Broome, including a nice audible at the line for a chunk gain.

Lonergan: Took a sack by Favor Bate, followed by a blown-up screen from Syair Torrence. Short completions to Lockwood and a highlight sideline catch by Bond stood out.

Arjona: Delivered one of the top plays of the day — a tackle-breaking run by MacCormack. Later, Griffin Collins made a spectacular one-handed interception.

Wrap-Up

Sunday’s practice closed with sideline-to-sideline sprints, as the team pushed through Day 4 with high energy and purpose. After a well-earned off day Monday, the Eagles will return with back-to-back sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday’s workout is scheduled to take place inside Alumni Stadium.

With effort and intensity building, Boston College looks like a team beginning to find its identity.
