Carlos Alcaraz clinched his first Italian Open title with a commanding 7-6(5), 6-1 victory over world No. 1 Jannik Sinner at the Foro Italico in Rome. This triumph not only ended Sinner’s 26-match winning streak but also solidified Alcaraz’s status as a formidable clay-court contender ahead of the French Open.

The match commenced with a tightly contested first set, culminating in a tiebreaker that Alcaraz secured 7-5. In the second set, Alcaraz’s aggressive play and consistency overwhelmed Sinner, allowing him to close out the match in straight sets.

Reflecting on his performance, Alcaraz expressed pride in his mental and tactical approach, stating, “I maintained my level during the whole match.” He also acknowledged Sinner’s remarkable return to form after a three-month hiatus, noting, “I’m sure it wasn’t easy for him coming back from three months without playing.”

This victory marks Alcaraz’s seventh ATP Masters 1000 title and his first in Rome, enhancing his confidence as he prepares for the upcoming French Open. The win also extends his head-to-head record against Sinner to 7-4, with Alcaraz having won their last four encounters.

As Alcaraz sets his sights on Roland Garros, his performance in Rome underscores his readiness to challenge for another Grand Slam title.
