Clemson Takes Care Of The Orangemen 91-73

Clemson, S.C. – Clemson University men’s basketball never trailed in Wednesday night contest. The Tigers came out roaring at the tip-off and defeated Syracuse 91-73. Clemson records their 12th ACC conference victory. A new school record.

The Tigers previous best conference marks were 11-4 in the Southern Conference in 1951-52 and 11-7 in the ACC in 2017-18.

The Tigers (20-8, 12-5 ACC) recorded 28 assists – the most in the Brad Brownell Era and the most in an ACC contest this season league wide.

Hunter Tyson was one of five Tigers to score in double figures. The 5th year senior posted 29 points and 10 rebounds earning him his 13th double-double of the year. Tyson stretched the floor for the Tigers and connected on six 3-point field goals, tying his career high.

Chase Hunter was an effective floor general tonight for the Tigers. Hunter scored 13 points and dished out a career-high 11 assists. That mark tied the most assists by a player under Brownell while at Clemson.

Ian Schieffelin, Brevin Galloway, and local product PJ Hall all scored in double figures as well, pouring in 10, 15, and 16 respectively.

The Tigers owned the glass, collecting a total of 38 rebounds compared to 28 by the Orangemen. Clemson used a 21-8 run in the first half to jump out to an 18-point lead. Leading by 13 at the break (45-32).

The Tigers continued their dominance in the second half. Clemson had a game-high 25 points with just over six minutes left and cruised the rest of the way.

Long three-pointers by freshman Judah Mintz and Justtin Taylor at the end of a 12-1 run got Cuse within 80-66 with 3:14 remaining left on the clock. Tyson answered with his career-high tying sixth 3-pointer and the Tigers led by at least 15 points for the rest of the contest.

Senior center Jesse Edwards (12 points, 10 boards) amassed his 12th double-double of the season, and guard Joseph Girard III chipped in 11 points for the Orange.

The Tigers travel to NC State to take on the Wolfpack on
Saturday. The game is slated to tip off at 12 p.m.

The Orange will close out their final road swing of the regular season at Pittsburgh on Saturday, Feb. 25. Tip-off inside the Petersen Events Center is set for 5:00 p.m. and the game will air live on the ACC Network.
