AMES, Iowa — No. 10 Iowa State stayed unbeaten and survived a furious late rally from No. 11 Iowa, earning a hard-fought 74–69 win Wednesday night behind dominant performances from Audi Crooks and Addy Brown.
Crooks powered the Cyclones (11–0) with 30 points and 10 rebounds—her fourth 30-point outing of the season—while Brown added 20 points and 12 boards as Iowa State controlled the paint most of the night. The Cyclones led by as many as 17 late in the third quarter and looked ready to cruise before Iowa mounted a late surge.
The Hawkeyes (9–1) stormed back with a 26–12 run that sliced the deficit to three in the closing minutes. Iowa even had a chance to tie the game in the final moments, but Mackenzie Hare came up with the defensive play of the night, blocking Taylor McCabe’s 3-point attempt with 16 seconds remaining. Crooks hit a free throw on the other end to push the margin to two possessions and seal the win.
Chazadi “Chit-Chat” Wright led Iowa with 21 points and four 3-pointers, while McCabe added 11 on three triples. Kylie Feuerbach and Hannah Stuelke each chipped in 10 points.
But the Hawkeyes struggled to contain Crooks, who continued her remarkable consistency with her 78th straight double-figure scoring game, the longest active streak in Division I. Many of her post touches were set up by Jada Williams, who delivered a career-best 12 assists along with 11 points and five rebounds.
Iowa’s leading scorer Ava Heiden, tasked with defending Crooks, battled foul trouble throughout the night and played just 16 minutes. She scored two key baskets during the comeback push before fouling out with just under four minutes left.
The win adds another chapter to Iowa State’s recent dominance in the CyHawk rivalry, as the Cyclones have taken 12 of the past 15 meetings. Iowa still maintains the overall series lead, 32–24.
