Ames, IA – The Iowa State softball team (18-17, 7-5 Big 12) put together a powerful offensive performance on Wednesday, cruising past Kansas City (4-29, 1-8 Summit League) with a 9-1 run-rule victory in five innings at Cyclone Sports Complex.
Iowa State’s bats were on fire, collecting a season-high 15 hits. Three Cyclones — Sereniti Trice (4-for-4), Reagan Bartholomew (3-for-3), and Karlee Ford (3-for-3) — delivered perfect days at the plate. Trice’s four-hit game marked a career-best.
Bartholomew provided the biggest swing of the day, crushing a three-run homer over center field in the third inning and finishing with a game-high four RBIs. Tatum Johnson and Angelina Allen each drove in two runs, including Johnson’s walk-off two-run double in the bottom of the fifth.
In the circle, Abby Huhn started for ISU, working 2.2 innings and giving up one run before handing the ball to Lauren Schurman (9-9), who closed it out with 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three.
Kansas City managed six hits, with Briona Woods driving in the Roos’ lone run. Riley Bebb (1-12) started in the circle for KC, giving up seven runs on eight hits in two innings of work.
Game Summary:
Iowa State wasted no time grabbing the lead. Trice got things rolling with a bunt single, eventually scoring on an Allen sacrifice fly. Bartholomew followed with an RBI double, making it 2-0 after the first inning.

Kansas City cut the lead to 2-1 in the third, but the Cyclones responded in a big way. ISU exploded for five runs in the bottom half, highlighted by Bartholomew’s three-run bomb to center. Johnson and Clemons also contributed RBIs during the frame.
After a scoreless fourth, Iowa State ended the game early in the fifth inning. Ford doubled and later scored on Johnson’s two-run single up the middle, securing the 9-1 victory via the run-rule.
