Ames, Iowa – Iowa State’s bid for a third straight Big 12 series win came up short Saturday afternoon, as the Cyclones (17-17, 7-5 Big 12) fell to BYU (23-10, 7-5 Big 12) in a 13-0 run-rule loss at Cyclone Sports Complex.
The Cougars set the tone early, scoring three runs in the opening frame, but it was a massive nine-run fifth inning that sealed the deal and handed BYU the series-clinching victory in just five innings.
Offensively, Iowa State struggled to find momentum at the plate, managing only two hits — one each from Ashley Minor and Reagan Bartholomew. Karlee Ford, Angelina Allen, and Paige Zender each worked walks, while Tatum Johnson reached after being hit by a pitch and Jessie Clemons reached on an error.
Abby Huhn (3-3) got the start for the Cyclones but was tagged with the loss after facing four batters in the first inning. Jaiden Ralston logged the bulk of the innings in relief, allowing three runs over four frames. Sami Potvin and Lauren Schurman also saw time in the circle for ISU.
BYU’s offense was powered by standout performances from Lindy Milkowski and freshman Ilove’a Brittingham. Both hitters launched two home runs apiece, accounting for all four of BYU’s long balls on the day. Brittingham led all players with five RBI, all courtesy of her two home runs.
In the circle, BYU’s Kate Dahle (8-3) was dominant, tossing a complete-game shutout while giving up just two hits and three walks, striking out three Cyclones along the way.
Game Summary:
BYU struck early in the first inning, capitalizing on a one-out walk with a two-run homer from Brittingham. The Cougars added a third run with back-to-back hits, putting Iowa State in an early hole.
Milkowski extended the lead in the third with her first homer of the day, making it a 4-0 game.

After holding Iowa State scoreless throughout, BYU broke things open in the fifth inning with a nine-run outburst, capped by home runs from both Brittingham and Milkowski, securing the 13-0 run-rule victory.
