Dallas Cowboys Pulls One Out In OT Against The Patriots 35-29

Foxborough, Mass. —–Love them or hate them, the Dallas Cowboys make games very exciting.

Dak Prescott rolled out to his left and hit wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who raced down the right side lines toward the end zone for the game-winning 35-yard score. While his team celebrated around him in overtime to beat the New Patriots 35-29 Sunday, the Cowboys quarterback felt pain in his right calf.

“Just came down funny. Didn’t like what I felt,” said Prescott, who wore a walking boot to his post game news conference. “Life keeps throwing punches and I’m gonna keep throwing them back. But I’ll be fine. I’ll promise you that.”

Prescott completed 36 of 51 passes for 445 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Lamb caught nine passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns including the game-winner.

Prescott manufactured a 7-play, 80-yard scoring drive in overtime, his 17th career game-winning drive. Only three players in the NFL have constructed more in that time period.

With 2:36 to go in the game, Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs extended his interception streak with a 42-yard pick six to give Dallas the lead. But the Pats weren’t going to make it easy for Dallas, Patriots quarterback Mac Jones hit receiver Kendrick Bourne for a 75-yard touchdown pass with 2:21 left in the game.

Jones played a decent game. The rookie completed 15 of 21 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns. But in overtime, New England’s offense managed just one first down before they were forced to punt.

The Cowboys hadn’t won at Foxboro since 1987 and was 0-5 against Bill Belichick. Dallas (5-1) have won five straight, their longest winning streak since 2016.

The Cowboys led 17-14 entering the fourth quarter, and that’s when it got interesting. The teams traded five scores in the period, three in the final 2 1/2 minutes.

New England (2-4) was hanging to a 21-20 lead when Diggs intercepted Jones pass and took it to the house — it was his seventh pick and second pick-six of the season — it put Dallas ahead 26-20. On the next play from scrimmage, Jones hit Kendrick Bourne for a 75-yard bomb. Jones then linked up with Jakobi Meyers for the 2-point conversion.

The Cowboys had a chance to retake the lead before Diggs’ interception, but Zuerlein’s 51-yard field goal attempt missed wide left with 2:47 remaining.

Prescott then led the Cowboys on a 40-yard drive and kicker Greg Zuerlein’s 49-yard field goal sent the game to overtime. The Cowboys ended it after New England punted on its first possession in OT as the Patriots dropped to 0-4 at home for the first time in Belichick’s 22 years as coach.

“We went toe-to-toe with them for 60 minutes,” Belichick said. “They just made a few more plays than we did.”

Damien Harris rushed 18 times for 101 yards and a score for the Patriots.

New England, who came in allowing 19.2 points per game, did a decent job keeping Dallas’ second-ranked offense in check until Prescott got into a rhythm in the second half and was throwing dimes all over the field.

“Just to be able to show the resiliency all night long in all those different moments and be able to have a chance at the end to win it and us to do it speaks volumes,” Prescott said.

Cowboys: CB Maurice Canady was evaluated for a concussion in the second quarter after a collision on a kickoff. LT Tyron Smith left in the third quarter with an ankle issue.
