Davidson Downs Richmond In The Opener Of The A-10 Tournament

Washington, DC — Reed Bailey led Davidson with 25 points in a 69-65 victory over Richmond on Wednesday, kicking off the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament.

As the 12th seed, Davidson will advance to face fifth-seeded Saint Louis in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Bailey was efficient, shooting 10-for-19 from the field, including 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, and 3-for-5 from the free-throw line for the Wildcats (17-15). Connor Kochera also had a strong performance, pouring 22 points on 7-for-11 shooting (2-for-4 from 3-point range) and 6-for-7 from the line.

Kochera also added six rebounds and five assists. Zach Laput chipped in with 11 points, shooting 3-for-6 from the field, including 1-for-3 from deep, and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line.

For Richmond (10-22), B. Artis White led the team with 17 points. Mike Walz posted a double-double, scoring 16 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out four assists.

Bailey had a hot start, scoring 14 points in the first half to help Davidson take a 34-32 lead into the break. Kochera’s scoring spree, including the final six points of the game, secured the victory for the Wildcats.
