Ramsey-New Jersey Don Bosco No. 12 in the NJ.Com top 20 (13-1pummeled Hackensack (9-682-58 on the Don Bosco campus in Ramsey. The comets did not have an answer for the Ironmen big three Marcellus Ellington, Chris Paul, and Charlie Bagin.

Ellington started real fast scoring Bosco first five points and setting the tone for the game early with his physical presence in the paint area.

The Ironmen went on a 10-0 run early in the first period to push the lead to 20-11 with 1:02 left in the quarter, even though Bosco played a sloppy first quarter.

We been doing a pretty great job starting fast the last few games and making someshots early. Getting up in the first quarter gives us a little more confidence it allows us to play with a little more ease. I think we did that tonight, defensively was pretty good and solid tonight. Said Don Bosco Head Coach Kevin Diverio.

The Comets was bothered by the Ironmen length and pressure turning the ball over 7times in the first half. Hackensack talented guard Atiba Taylor tried to penetrate the aggressive Bosco defense with his 10 points at the half.

The Ironmen turned up the pressure in the second quarter, converting turnovers and missed shots into quick points. Hackensack made a last minute run before halftime trimming the lead to 41-28 at the break.

Bosco Marcellus Ellington finished the game with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists, Chris Paul had 15 points and Charlie Bagin 14 points respectively.

The beating continued in the fourth period as Connecticut extended its advantage to 37. Coach Geno Auriemma took out Napheesa Collier (17 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists), Kia Nurse (18 points, 3 assists, and 6 steals) and Katie Lou Samuelson (32 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a career high 7 steals) for good at the end of the third period.

Today it felt like I wasn’t playing hard enough like I should of early in the game and didn’t want to let my teammates down. That early layup in the second quarter ease me a bit and I was able to relax and get on track. My shots started to fall after that.” Said UConn Forward Katie Lou Samuelson.

The lopsided victory sends the Huskies on the road to Greenville, NC to square against East Carolina Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. game start on SNY.
