Fairfield Edges Vermont 67-66 Behind Smith’s Key Performance

Uncasville, Conn. — Peyton Smith scored 12 points to help Fairfield hold off Vermont in a thrilling 67-66 victory on Sunday.

Smith was efficient, hitting 4 of 7 shots from the field and sinking all four of his free throws to lead the Stags (3-4). Prophet Johnson contributed 10 points, making 4 of 6 attempts, while Makuei Riek also scored 10, shooting 4 of 9, including 2 of 4 from three-point range.

For the Catamounts (3-4), TJ Long led the way with 18 points. TJ Hurley added 17, and Jace Roquemore chipped in with 13 points and two steals in the narrow loss.

Fairfield will host Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, while Vermont will face SUNY-Plattsburgh at home on Wednesday.
