Statesboro, Ga. — Georgia Southern unleashed a powerful rushing attack Saturday as three Eagles rushed for over 100 yards, propelling the team to a 26-18 win over Maine at Paulson Stadium.

Matt LaRoche, Justin Tomlin, and Logan Wright each topped the century mark on the ground, marking the first time since 2012 that Georgia Southern had three players rush for 100+ yards in the same game.

LaRoche led the trio with 154 yards on just nine carries, while Tomlin added 132 yards on 11 attempts, and Wright contributed 114 yards on 13 carries. The Eagles (1-1) racked up 395 rushing yards in total, wearing down the Black Bears’ defense throughout the afternoon.

LaRoche, Tomlin Spark Second-Half Surge

Georgia Southern built a commanding 23-3 lead early in the fourth quarter thanks to a 29-yard run by Tomlin that set up LaRoche’s touchdown from 11 yards out. The score capped off a methodical drive that showcased the Eagles’ relentless ground game.

Placekicker Tyler Bass was also instrumental, connecting on a career-high four field goals, helping the Eagles maintain control despite some offensive miscues.

Maine (1-1) mounted a late comeback with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, the second coming on a 46-yard strike to Jaquan Blair with just over two minutes remaining. But the Black Bears never got another chance, as Georgia Southern ran out the clock on the ensuing possession.

Despite turning the ball over seven times via fumbles, the Eagles only lost one, avoiding what could have been a costly turnover battle.
