Anaheim, Calif. — Landen Roupp delivered a dominant performance on the mound Saturday night, fanning a career-best nine batters over seven strong innings to help the San Francisco Giants secure a narrow 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Roupp, now 2-1 on the season, surrendered just two runs on five hits while issuing a single walk across 96 pitches. The right-hander’s signature curveball was on full display, accounting for 12 of his 18 whiffs — pushing his league-leading total to 42 swinging strikes with the breaking ball this year.

Despite his command, Roupp made two costly mistakes, both of which Mike Trout launched over the wall for solo home runs. The pair of blasts marked Trout’s 28th career multi-homer game, a franchise record, and brought his season total to eight, just one behind league leader Tyler Soderstrom of the Athletics.

Offensively, the Giants got all the runs they needed in the first three innings. Matt Chapman opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first, his fourth of the year, taking a Kyle Hendricks changeup 384 feet over the left-field fence. In the third, Mike Yastrzemski doubled and later crossed the plate on Willy Adames’ RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.

Hendricks (0-2) lasted five innings, allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout.

San Francisco’s bullpen shut the door in the late innings. Tyler Rogers set the Angels down in order in the eighth, and Ryan Walker notched his fifth save after retiring Nolan Schanuel on a flyout to left with the tying run at second base in the ninth.

Game-Saving Play:
The Angels nearly completed the comeback in the ninth when Trout sent a deep drive to left-center. But Heliot Ramos timed a perfect leap at the wall to rob him of a third home run and preserve the Giants’ win.

Notable Stat:
Over their last eight games, the Angels have struck out 89 times while drawing just eight walks in 71 innings.

On Deck:
The series wraps up Sunday with Yusei Kikuchi (0-3, 4.13 ERA) set to start for the Angels, while the Giants counter with veteran right-hander Justin Verlander (0-1, 6.75 ERA).
