NEWARK, N.J — Nico Hischier delivered the decisive moment Wednesday night, scoring on a breakaway 3:42 into overtime to lift the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 win over the Seattle Kraken.
After taking a feed from Jack Hughes, Hischier raced in alone on goaltender Philipp Grubauer. With Seattle’s Matty Beniers closing from behind, the Devils captain shifted to his backhand to protect the puck and slipped the winner past Grubauer. The goal was Hischier’s second of the night and his team-leading 15th of the season.
Cody Glass also found the net for New Jersey, while Jacob Markstrom turned aside 15 shots as the Devils continued to rebound after snapping a four-game skid earlier in the week with a win in Minnesota.

Seattle got goals from Jared McCann and defenseman Adam Larsson, and Grubauer finished with 23 saves. The Kraken are nearing the end of a road trip that began with a loss at Carolina and included a win over the New York Rangers.
Glass opened the scoring just 54 seconds into the game after winning a faceoff and converting the rebound of a Dougie Hamilton shot. Larsson answered for Seattle at 8:55 of the first period, stepping into a shot between the circles and beating Markstrom to even the score.
Hischier put New Jersey back in front on the power play early in the second period, firing a shot from the top of the right circle to the far side. Seattle responded quickly, as McCann tied the game 1:33 later by burying a rebound on a power play at 5:06.
With the teams deadlocked through regulation, Hischier ended it in overtime to secure the Devils’ second straight victory.
