Atlanta, Ga—–Jackson State University etched its name into the history books and sent a strong message to the SWAC. Under the leadership of head coach T.C. Taylor—a Magnolia native and former JSU standout receiver—the Tigers claimed their first-ever Celebration Bowl victory. In just his second year at the helm, Taylor guided JSU to a commanding 28-7 win over South Carolina State in Atlanta.
This wasn’t just a game—it was redemption. After falling to the Bulldogs in the 2021 matchup, Jackson State came determined to rewrite the narrative. Following a scoreless opening quarter, the Tigers found their rhythm, heading into halftime with a 14-0 advantage. Their defense was relentless, holding South Carolina State scoreless until the final quarter, while the offense consistently piled on points.
Quarterback Jacobian Morgan, a Canton High School product, delivered a clutch performance, completing 15 of 21 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns. Both scoring throws went to wide receiver Joanes Fortilien, who was unstoppable with seven receptions on the night.
On the ground, SWAC Offensive Player of the Year Irv Mulligan showcased his grit, racking up 69 hard-fought yards on 25 carries and finding the end zone twice. Meanwhile, Madison Central alum Isaiah Spencer made a statement in the passing game, hauling in three catches for an impressive 123 yards.
Atlanta belonged to the Tigers, who made history and sent a clear message: Jackson State is here to stay. Their dominant performance not only secured the Celebration Bowl trophy but also set the tone for the future.
