New Orleans, LA – Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been crowned the winner of the Pete Rozelle Trophy as Super Bowl LIX’s Most Valuable Player.
Hurts joins an elite group of quarterbacks, becoming the fifth player in Super Bowl history to record both multiple touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown in the same game. He joins the ranks of Ken Anderson (Super Bowl XVI), Pro Football Hall of Famers Brett Favre (Super Bowl XXXI), Joe Montana (Super Bowl XIX), and Patrick Mahomes (Super Bowl LIV).
This accolade builds on Hurts’ remarkable Super Bowl career, as he is also the first quarterback to amass over 200 passing yards and 50 rushing yards in multiple Super Bowls. He previously achieved similar success in Super Bowl LVII, where he posted 304 passing yards and 70 rushing yards. Hurts is only the third quarterback in history to have both a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown in more than one Super Bowl, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers John Elway (Super Bowls XXI and XXXIII) and Joe Montana (Super Bowls XVI and XIX).
Hurts delivered a remarkable performance in the Eagles’ dominant 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, posting an impressive passer rating of 119.7. In addition to his aerial success, Hurts showcased his versatility with 72 rushing yards and a touchdown, setting a new Super Bowl record for the most rushing yards by a quarterback in the big game. This marks the 34th occasion a quarterback has earned the Super Bowl MVP title.
The Super Bowl MVP award is determined by a panel of 16 media members, including analysts, journalists from New Orleans, Kansas City, and Philadelphia, Pro Football Writers of America-appointed reporters who attended team practices during Super Bowl week, past Pro Football Writers of America presidents, national media members, and fans who vote through NFL.com.
