Joe Burrows Wins The Heisman In A Landslide

New York- LSU quarterback Joe Burrow won the Heisman Trophy as the nation’s top college football player Saturday and left no dry eye in the Playstation Theatre after his emotional speech.

The victory for 6’4″ Burrow represents the second time that an LSU player hoisted the trophy, the first since 1959. He is also the 39th quarterback to win the Heisman.

After interviewing Burrow on Friday and getting to know him, you knew if he won the covenant award it would be a very passionate speech awaiting his friends, family, coaches, and fans.

Burrow was very choked up talking about LSU head coach Ed Orgeron and thanked him for giving him a chance to play for the Tigers and giving him the keys to his football program. Burrow transferred to LSU prior to the start of the 2018 season after having played sparingly at Ohio State from 2015 to 2017.

“Coach O, you have no idea what you mean to my family,” Burrow said. “I didn’t play for three years. You took a chance on me not knowing if I could play or not. I’m forever grateful for you.

“I sure hope they give him a lifetime contract.”

Burrow has led LSU to 14 straight wins dating back to last season. The Tigers are 13-0 this season and are the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff and the reigning SEC champions.

The Ohio native has played in all 13 games this season. He has completed 78% of his passes has thrown for 4,715 passing yards and 48 touchdown passes. The senior has led LSU to key wins over Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia this year. Burrow was named the Associated Press College Player of the year, the first LSU player to win the award. Also, Burrow was awarded the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, the Davey O’ Brien National Quarterback of the Year and the Maxwell Award, given to the college football’s best overall football player.

Joe Burrow will be officially honored at the 85th annual Heisman Memorial Trophy Dinner Gala on Sunday evening, December 15, 2019, at the Marriott Marquis in New York.
