Hulu Theater—Raymond Cuadrado worked hard to get a win in his junior lightweight bout just a few subway stops from his home.

Super featherweight Raymond “The Scientist” Cuadrado, 2-0 (1), #129 ½ at weigh ins, of Ridgewood, NY, won a close decision over hard hitting southpaw Michael Land, 1-4-1 (1), 129 ¼, of Cedar Hill, TX, over four action packed rounds.

In the first round, Cuadrado controlled the bout with his jab until the final seconds when Land hurt him with a straight right hand to the mandible. In the second, both fighters try to established themselves in an action-packed round. In the third round, Land put together some combinations and hurt Cuadrado in the final minute with a left hook to the chin. In the last round, Land hurt Cuadrado on several occasions with his left jabs, but Cuadrado put enough combos together to seal the contest.

The first-year junior lightweight prospect from Queens, New York claimed the close four-round fight, unanimous decision victory over Dallas’ Michael Land in a slough fest battle. Judge Martha Tremblay (40-36), John Porturaj (39-37) and Robert Perez (39-37) all scored in favor of Cuadrado, who had a far tougher competition than the first-round knockout earned in his pro debut this past April.

Land (1-4-1, 1KO) came to the fight swinging from the sound of the bell, initiating the action early and forcing Cuadrado (2-0, 1KO) to adapt to his quick pace style. The unbeaten New York native adjusted to the speed, creating enough space between the two often to avoid getting knocked out by the challenger.

Headlining the show, former title challenger Jose Zepeda (34-2, 26KOs) of La Puente, California faced Josue Vargas (19-1, 9KOs), a uprising Puerto Rican prospect based out of Bronx, New York.
