Kansas City, Mo. —If the NY Giants want to turn their season around, they have to find a way to take care of the football in the waning minutes of football games.

The game was tied late in the fourth quarter. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes drove his team 45-yards and kicker Harrison Butker kicked the go-ahead 34-yarder with 1:07 left on the clock to beat the New York Giants 20-17 to even their record at Arrowhead.

“Listen, everything is not beautiful right now but we’re fighting through it,” Reid said. “Our guys battled. They didn’t give up on each other. They kept working at a time you could have just thrown your hands up and say, ‘Man, things are just not working the way they’re supposed to work.’ So we’ll build on that. Let’s keep going.”

It was just the fourth win in 15 meetings for the Chiefs and their first since the 2013 season.

Patrick Mahomes threw for 275 yards with a touchdown and an pick for KC, who also had two turnovers committed 12 penalties for 103 yards. Speedster Tyreek Hill had 12 catches for 94 yards and a touchdown, and Mecole Hardman added five catches for 63 yards, including a 24-yard catch on the final drive that set up the winner for Butker.

“The guys are battling and trying to find ways to win,” Mahomes said, “and tonight we did.”

The G-Men entered the game without their stars: running back Saquon Barkely and wide receiver Kenny Golladay. The two were inactive because of injuries. New York also lost wide receiver Sterling Shepherd to a quad injury during the contest.

New York kept it close against the Chiefs and even took a 17-14 lead early in the fourth, when quarterback Daniel Jones hit tight end Evan Engram for a 5-yard touchdown pass.

Daniel Jones had 222 yards passing with two touchdowns and a interception for NY (2-6), but he also was sacked three times, including twice with over a minute left in the game.

“We have to eliminate the mistakes we made down the stretch,” New York coach Joe Judge said. “We cant allow a team like this to have extra opportunities. We can’t rob ourselves a chance to have opportunities of our own.”

The Chiefs was carving up the Giants on their opening drive, but for the fourth time this season Mahomes had a pass bounce off his intended target for an interception — this time, backup running back Jerick McKinnon.

Mahomes has become an interception machine. He threw his 10th interception of the season in the first quarter on the Chiefs’ opening drive. He has now thrown an pick in seven straight games.

The Chiefs regained their composure and scored moments later, after Jones gave the ball right back to them on a bad throw, but they struggled to get in a offensive rhythm. Mahomes and his wide receivers couldn’t get on the same page, tight end Travis Kelce was bottled up by the New York defense all game long.

Kansas City turned went to the ground game when they scored their second touchdown. Derrick Gore carried the ball seven times for 43 yards before cracking the goal line for his first career touchdown.

Jones had to rely on Booker and his backup receivers to march 85-yards for an early touchdown — most of it coming when John Ross III beat safety Daniel Sorensen for a nice 50-yarder.

The struggling Chiefs found a way to climb back into the game.

Kansas City defense held on third down and the G-Men punter Riley Dixon sent a wobbler out of bounds to give the Chiefs prime real estate.

The Chiefs finished the comeback by putting Butker in position for the winner.

“We knew it was going to be a challenge. No win is given to you,” Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones said. “You have to take that approach. It’s a battle every drive, every play. You have to execute at a high level to get past your opponent.”
