Lehman Center For The Performing Arts Presents Dimension Latina Reuniting After 20 Years For Their “Now Or Never” TOUR With Special Guest Alexander Abreu

Bronx, NY—-Lehman Center for the Performing Arts is proud to present the legendary Venezuelan salsa band, DIMENSIÓN LATINA with special guest, Cuban vocalist, ALEXANDER ABREU on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, at 8pm. After more than 20 years of absence from stages in the United States, the band will return with their “Now or Never” tour at Lehman Center to kick off the summer with an incredible night of music!

DIMENSIÓN LATINA, is a national musical treasure, from Caracas, Venezuela. The original band included iconic figures such as Oscar D’León, Andy Montañez, Jesús Narváez, José Rodríguez, César Monges, and César “Albóndiga” Monjes. With a trajectory of more than 50 years, the band has become one of the notable names in the early history of salsa in the American continent, creating hits “Llorarás,” “Culpable Soy Yo,” and “Taboga”.

Their debut album, “El Clan De Victor & Dimension Latina” (1972), featuring Oscar D’Leon, introduced their distinctive sound to the world. When Andy Montañez joined the group, they released, “Dimension Latina Presentando A Andy Montañez”, which quickly became a huge success. The group went on to release several albums, “Dimension Latina ’75”, “Dimensión Latina en New York”, and “Producto de Exportación”, consistently delivering chart-topping hits that have become anthems of the salsa movement, including “Mi Adorada” and “Dolor Cobarde”.

Dimensión Latina won the Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album in 1980, for their album “Dimensión Latina Internacional.” Dimensión Latina’s catalog of timeless hits continues to resonate with listeners today, even after 50 years, being a testament to their musical legacy.

ALEXANDER ABREU, is a Cuban vocalist, trumpeter, arranger and director, known for his fusion of Salsa, Jazz, Funk, and Afro-Cuban music. Alexander Abreu started playing trumpet when he was 10 years old and studied music at a small conservatory in his native Cienfuegos before moving to Havana to study at the Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA). Abreau founded the renowned band Havana D’ Primera in 2008.

During his time with the band they received several awards including the Cubadisco Award, for their album,“Cantor del Pueblo”, and a Latin Grammy Award nomination best salsa album for “Cantor del Pueblo” in 2018, and  Será Que Se Acabó in 2023.

The Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. is supported, in part, by public funds through the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the New York City Council and the Bronx Delegation. Additional funding is provided by the New York State Council on the Arts with support from the office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
