Bronx, NY—-Lehman Center for the Performing Arts is proud to present INDIA with LUIS DAMÓN on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, at 8 PM. In celebration of Mother’s Day weekend, La Princesa de la Salsa returns to the Bronx for a powerhouse evening of unforgettable hits, including “Vivir Lo Nuestro,” “Ese Hombre,” and “Costumbres.” A Latin Grammy Award winner, INDIA is celebrated for her chart-topping albums like Dicen Que Soy, Sobre el Fuego, and Intensamente La India Con Canciones De Juan Gabriel, which won Best Salsa Album in 2016.

With her Grammy-nominated vocals and commanding stage presence, she remains an influential female voice in salsa. With opening act LUIS DAMÓN, this one-night-only concert brings an electrifying evening of Latin music and celebration.

Born Linda Viera Caballero in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, INDIA moved to the South Bronx shortly after her birth, where her grandmother gave her the nickname that would become her stage name. She began her music career as a teenager in the dance music group TKA and later recorded early hits like “Dancing on the Fire” and “Love and Happiness” under producers Jellybean Benítez and “Little” Louie Vega, both of which reached the Billboard dance charts in the late 1980s. In 1992, INDIA made a pivotal shift to salsa, collaborating with Eddie Palmieri on the album Llegó La India via Eddie Palmieri, which marked her breakthrough in the genre. Two years later, she released Dicen Que Soy (1994), a quadruple platinum album that featured the beloved duet “Vivir Lo Nuestro” with Marc Anthony.

Her 1996 album Sobre el Fuego, featuring Celia Cruz and Johnny Rivera, topped the Tropical/Salsa chart and included hits like “Me Cansé de Ser la Otra” and “Costumbres.” In 2000, her tribute album Sola earned the Latin Billboard Award for Best Tropical/Salsa Album of the Year. INDIA went on to earn multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations, with Intensamente La India Con Canciones De Juan Gabriel winning the 2016 Latin Grammy for Best Salsa Album. Her chart-topping singles “Sedúceme” (2003), “Estúpida” (2010), and “Víctimas las Dos” (2021) further cemented her legacy, with the latter breaking her own record for the most #1 singles by a female artist on the Billboard Tropical Songs chart. INDIA’s decades-long career has included collaborations with icons like Tito Puente, Juan Gabriel, Oscar D’León, and Victor Manuelle, and she continues to be celebrated as one of the most powerful and enduring voices in Latin music.
