KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs are getting stronger with each passing week. The Baltimore Ravens? They’re running out of bodies.

Patrick Mahomes looked every bit like his MVP self on Sunday, throwing for 270 yards and four touchdowns as the Chiefs cruised to a 37–20 victory at Arrowhead Stadium. Four different receivers found the end zone, while rookie Xavier Worthy provided a spark in his return from a shoulder injury, grabbing five passes for 83 yards.

The Chiefs (2–2) jumped out early and never looked back, building a 20–10 halftime lead and keeping Baltimore winless in Kansas City since 2021. The Ravens (1–3) lost more than just the game. Quarterback Lamar Jackson exited midway through the third quarter with a hamstring injury after throwing for 147 yards, one touchdown, and his first interception of the season. Backup Cooper Rush finished the game.

“It was a big step forward for us,” said Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, who returned from a family funeral just in time for kickoff. “We came in focused, and it showed.”

Chiefs Find Their Groove

Kansas City had been inconsistent through the season’s first three weeks, but on Sunday they scored on four of their first five drives. Harrison Butker opened with two field goals, Mahomes connected with JuJu Smith-Schuster for a short score, and Isiah Pacheco caught another TD to push the lead to 20–7 late in the second quarter.

After Butker missed a 56-yarder, Baltimore trimmed the deficit with a 43-yard kick by Tyler Loop, but Kansas City responded immediately to start the second half. Mahomes engineered a six-play, 65-yard march capped by Tyquan Thornton’s touchdown. By the time Marquise Brown hauled in a scoring strike early in the fourth quarter, the game was well out of reach.

“We’ve been making little mistakes here and there, but we’ve learned from them,” Mahomes said. “I’m proud of the way we’ve gotten better every week.”

Ravens Battered by Injuries

Baltimore entered the game already thin, and things only got worse. Linebacker Roquan Smith, corner Marlon Humphrey, and rookie Nate Wiggins all left with injuries, joining defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike and pass rusher Broderick Washington Jr. on the growing list of absentees. By the fourth quarter, the Ravens were down seven defensive starters.

“I’m concerned but not overwhelmed,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “We’ve lost to three really good teams. We need to win the next one and start stacking some victories.”

Running back Derrick Henry was held to just 42 yards on eight carries, while Justice Hill broke loose for a late 71-yard touchdown run. But with Jackson sidelined, Baltimore’s offense sputtered against a Kansas City defense that stiffened when it mattered most.
