Newark, NJ-The Premier Boxing Champions’ main event was one that had a dim start but ultimately got its rhythm. Belleville, New Jersey’s Vito Mielnicki Jr. took down Nicholas DeLomba in a triumphant 10th round TKO Christmas evening at The Prudential Center.
The 1st two rounds both fighters were feeling each other out, getting their footwork in, making the bout look more like a sparring match but things quickly took a turn by round 3. White Magic came in guns blazing with a combination of upper cuts and body shots cornering Nice Nick to chats of “Let’s Go Vito”.
DeLomba attempted to comeback in round 4 with a few overhand right shots though continuing to struggle landing just 33 punches to Mielnick’s 49 red-faced and sporting a lump above his right eye.
The 31-year old orthodox welterweight fighter visibly worn by his 19-year old opponent’s attack tactics, maintained his stance to the end yet it possibly was the very same factor that hurt his chances, keeping him from being more effective.
Mielnicki using his tall frame and long arms took control the reminder of fight with power punches and eventually sealing the deal in his 10th round win with a hard right that rocked DeLomba forcing referee Eric Dali to stop the fight a minute 49 seconds in the final.
“I think in this fight I definitely displayed my boxing ability. I was using my feet. Everyone knows me as a puncher and a pressure guy. I was in there with a tough guy and I want to thank him for sharing the ring with me tonight.”
The baby-faced rising prospect talked about how challenging his 1st headlining debut and his future goals, “It was a beautiful right hand that hurt him. He was a tough guy and he made me work all night. At 19-years-old going 10-rounds, I felt great and my wind was great. I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. I’m blessed to be in this position and we definitely can’t wait to be back in 2022.”
“I just want to keep growing and growing next year. I might get on some undercards next year, or I’d be thrilled to main event here at Prudential Center again.”
