Mitchell’s Heroics Lead Fever To Stunning OT Victory Over Sun

Uncasville, Conn. — In a remarkable display of determination, Kelsey Mitchell erupted for 34 of her career-high 38 points after the break, leading the Indiana Fever to a thrilling 99-93 overtime victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.

Lexie Hull delivered a clutch moment, hitting a corner three-pointer with 44.9 seconds left in overtime, sealing the win after Indiana overcame a 21-point deficit. Along with Mitchell’s dazzling performance, Odyssey Sims poured in 19 points and 7 assists, while Natasha Howard chipped in with 18 points. Aliyah Boston was solid across the board, finishing with 14 points, 13 boards, five assists, two steals, and two blocks.

In the overtime period, Mitchell scored all of Indiana’s points, including back-to-back three-pointers during a 10-4 run. Hull’s three-pointer extended the Fever’s lead to 97-90, pushing them to an incredible comeback victory.

For the Connecticut Sun (6-27), Marina Mabrey led the way with 27 points, while Tina Charles chipped in 21. Saniya Rivers had a standout performance with 15 points and a career-high five blocks, while Aneesah Morrow posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Rookie Leïla Lacan also had a strong showing, registering a season-high 14 assists and 7 points.

The game opened with Sims making back-to-back layups, giving Indiana an early 4-1 lead. However, the Sun quickly took control, rattling off a 12-point run to jump ahead. Despite the Fever’s early struggles, they would not back down. The Sun built their largest lead of the game at 54-33 midway through the third quarter, and held a comfortable 74-60 advantage with just over six minutes left in regulation.

But Indiana wouldn’t let up. Mitchell was relentless, converting a three-point play that tied the game at 82-all with just under 45 seconds remaining. After a quick response from Charles with a turnaround jumper, Boston answered with a clutch jumper of her own, sending the game into overtime.

Indiana’s resilience in the extra period and Mitchell’s shooting kept Connecticut at bay, ultimately leading the Fever to a memorable comeback victory.

The game also saw Sophie Cunningham of the Fever exit early in the second quarter due to a knee injury and did not return. Caitlin Clark remained sidelined, missing her 13th consecutive game due to a groin injury.

The Sun will next play at Washington on Tuesday, while the Fever will return home to host Minnesota on Friday.
