Annapolis, MD—–The Naval Academy kicked off their 2024 season in dominating fashion with a 49-21 victory over the Bucknell Bison in front of 28,763 fans at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
The game didn’t start in Navy’s favor, as Bucknell struck first with a 47-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ralph Rucker to Nate Anderson, taking an early 7-0 lead. Navy’s first drive stalled, but they quickly found their stride on their second possession.
Fullback Dana Fofana broke free for a 49-yard touchdown run, racing to the end zone untouched. Although the extra point attempt was unsuccessful, this play set the tone for the rest of the game.
In the second quarter, Navy took full control, racking up 22 unanswered points to head into halftime with a commanding 28-7 lead. Their offense looked like it was in mid-season form, executing plays with precision and confidence.
Navy kept the momentum going in the second half, outscoring Bucknell by seven points to secure the win. It was a strong opening performance that set a high bar for the rest of the season.
With a 1-0 start, Navy will be back at home next week, ready to take on their regional rivals, the Temple Owls, from Philadelphia. This game will be a great test for the Midshipmen as they look to build on their early success.
