Even with Friday night’s erratic weather, there was no turning down the heat that filled the lush Ovation Hall as St. Louis mega rap star Nelly took to the stage causing a melodic explosion at the amphitheater performing a list of his endless multi-platinum hits.
Making it a one-man show with his DJ Deja Blu on the one’s and two’s alongside his brother City Spud of the Hip-Hop group St. Lunatics, Nelly turned the sold-out arena into a pre-summer jam fest having fans go into a music frenzy.
Warming up the crowd, he spun out smash hits “E.I.”, “Ride Wit Me”, and “Batter Up” from his debut album ‘Country Grammar’ which branded him solo success after St. Lunatics fame having the album certified Diamond in the US and three times certified platinum in both New Zealand and Canada.
After slaying his intro, the rapper, singer, songwriter kept at his sexy swag on “Air Force Ones” taking a pause to thank his die hard fans for coming out and acknowledging their support since the start of his career declaring “Who’s been riding with Nelly since day one” receiving a thunderous roar from ecstatic listeners before jumping back in party mode to classic tracks “Country Grammar” and “Hot In Herre” sending the crowd to overdrive.
Slowing down the tempo, Nelly showcased his western vibe off tracks “Cruise” and “Lit Bit” his collabos with country duo Florida Georgia Line while rocking “Off The Wall” sampling in MJ’s classic chorus finessing his bars. DJ Deja Blu got his groove on spinning mixes of DJ Khalid’s “All I Do Is Win”, Chingy’s “Right Thurr”, J-kwon’s club smash “Tipsy” and Lil John’s “Get Low” hyping up the spiked crowd.
Bringing his amazing set to a close, Nelly performed his 2002 Grammy Award winning fan favorite “Dilemma” off his certified six times platinum sophomore album ‘Nellyville’ crooning the sea of ladies admiring his romancing flow with a flawless finale to an all-out musical bash.
Nelly notably has evolved from his days as a St. Lunatic growing from rapper, actor, to businessman diversifying his investments in fashion, sports teams, philanthropy all while staying true to his first love, music.
