Queens, NY — A clutch ninth-inning rally lifted the New York Mets to a 2-1 walk-off win over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night at Citi Field, as Francisco Lindor sealed the victory with a sacrifice fly in the series opener.

Tyrone Taylor sparked the decisive frame with a leadoff double off White Sox reliever Steven Wilson (1-1). After an intentional walk to Jeff McNeil and a sharp single by Luis Torrens to load the bases, Lindor launched a deep fly ball to right field, allowing Taylor to tag up and cross the plate with the winning run.

The Mets, who had been stymied by former teammate Adrian Houser for most of the night, broke through in the eighth inning. Juan Soto tied the game with a sacrifice fly after New York had left the bases loaded in the seventh. It was a gritty finish for the Mets, who managed just two baserunners through the first six innings.

Edwin Díaz (2-0) picked up the win after a clean ninth inning, helping the Mets (now on a three-game winning streak) rebound from a recent 2-6 stretch.

Mets starter Clay Holmes delivered a strong outing, going 5 2/3 innings while allowing one run on four hits. He threw a career-high 102 pitches and kept the game within reach after surrendering a fourth-inning sacrifice fly to Andrew Benintendi.

The White Sox (17-37) continue to struggle offensively, finishing 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position and failing to capitalize on early chances. Their lone run came in the fourth, and they were held hitless over the final three innings.

Adrian Houser, making his second start for the White Sox after being released by the Mets last summer, was impressive once again. He tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out six. In his White Sox debut last week, he held Seattle scoreless over six innings as well.

Houser became the first White Sox pitcher to deliver consecutive outings of six or more scoreless innings with three or fewer hits allowed since Michael Kopech accomplished the feat in May 2023.
