NJ Devils Beats Down The Boston Bruins 5-1 At The Rock

NEWARK, N.J. — Dawson Mercer netted two goals during a dominant four-goal second period, leading the New Jersey Devils to a 5-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Wednesday night.

Nico Hischier added a goal and two assists, Dougie Hamilton contributed a goal and an assist, and Stefan Noesen also found the back of the net. Timo Meier chipped in with two assists as the Devils snapped a four-game losing streak.

Jacob Markstrom recorded six saves before exiting early in the second period after a collision, with Jake Allen stepping in to stop all 16 shots he faced the rest of the way.

Morgan Geekie scored the lone goal for the Bruins. Jeremy Swayman made 25 saves through two periods, while Joonas Korpisalo stopped five shots in the final frame.

Geekie put Boston ahead 1-0 at 5:50 of the first period, but Mercer quickly responded, tying the game just 1:24 into the second. At 3:09, Markstrom was forced to leave the game after colliding with Bruins forward Justin Brazeau in the crease.

The Devils capitalized on the power play in the second period, starting with Hamilton’s goal at 4:12. Noesen followed with another power-play tally at 16:10 for his 18th of the season. Mercer then struck again just 12 seconds later to extend New Jersey’s lead to 4-1.

Hischier added a fifth goal for the Devils with a power-play score at 13:32 of the third period, his 23rd of the season, to close out the dominant performance.

The game also saw a pre-game tribute to former Devils coach Jacques Lemaire, who was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor for his role in leading New Jersey to its first Stanley Cup in 1995.
