South Orange, N.J. — No. 1 UConn continued its dominant run through the Big East on Saturday, overwhelming Seton Hall 92–52 behind balanced scoring, suffocating defense, and another strong performance from its deep rotation.
Sarah Strong paced the Huskies with 17 points, while reserve Blanca Quiñonez delivered a standout effort off the bench, scoring 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Azzie Fudd added 14 points, bouncing back from a brief shooting slump and igniting the offense early.
UConn extended its winning streak against Seton Hall to 43 games, a stretch that dates back to Jan. 5, 1994. With the victory, the Huskies improved to 21–0 overall and 11–0 in Big East play, remaining unbeaten on the season.
Fudd was sharp from the opening tip, knocking down her first four shots and not missing until late in the first half. After struggling from beyond the arc in recent games, she finished 3-of-4 from three-point range. With UConn firmly in control, head coach Geno Auriemma rested both Fudd and Strong for the entire fourth quarter.
UConn’s depth once again proved overwhelming, as the Huskies received 45 points from the bench. Allie Ziebell contributed 11 points, while Quiñonez added five rebounds and four assists to her efficient scoring night.
Defense fueled the lopsided result. The Huskies forced 27 turnovers and converted them into 37 points, while their crisp ball movement produced 25 assists—marking the 20th consecutive game UConn has recorded at least 20 assists.
Seton Hall briefly held the lead early, last going ahead 15–13 on a Mariana Valenzuela three-pointer midway through the first quarter. From that point on, UConn took control, closing the first half on a 13–4 run to carry a 50–28 advantage into the break after shooting 61 percent from the field in the opening half.
Valenzuela led the Pirates with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Savannah Catalon added 11 points. The loss snapped Seton Hall’s four-game winning streak and dropped the Pirates to 14–6 overall and 8–3 in conference play.
The game was moved from Sunday to Saturday due to the forecast of a winter storm in the Northeast.
Up Next, UConn will return home to host Xavier on Thursday at Gampel Pavilion, where the program will also induct Aaliyah Edwards into the Huskies of Honor.
