Columbia, SC—Raegan Beers, the senior center for the Oklahoma Sooners, entered Sunday’s matchup against the South Carolina Gamecocks looking to make her presence felt in the frontcourt against a team known to have a thinner lineup in that area. However, what followed was a dominant display by the Gamecocks that left little room for the Sooners to establish any momentum.

From the opening tip, South Carolina’s defense set the tone. The Gamecocks forced six turnovers in the first six minutes, smothering Oklahoma’s offense and creating scoring opportunities in transition. Players like MiLaysia Fulwiley capitalized on these chances, delivering highlight-reel plays that further energized their squad.

The Sooners, meanwhile, struggled mightily to find their rhythm. Shooting just 28% from the field in the first half and committing 11 turnovers, Oklahoma found itself in a massive hole, trailing by 26 points at the break. South Carolina’s relentless defense and balanced offensive attack proved too much to handle.

After halftime, the Gamecocks showed no signs of letting up. By the end of the third quarter, they had stretched their lead to an astonishing 39 points. The final score, 101-60, underscored South Carolina’s dominance. The Gamecocks (18-1, 6-0 SEC) forced 22 turnovers and turned those into 32 points. Their defensive prowess was evident with 11 steals, while they committed only six turnovers themselves.

South Carolina showcased its depth, with contributions coming from across the roster. Joyce Edwards led the team with 17 points, marking her second consecutive game as the top scorer. MiLaysia Fulwiley added 15 points, Tessa Johnson chipped in 13 while shooting 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, and Sania Feagin contributed 12 points. The Gamecocks also connected on 10 three-pointers as a team, further emphasizing their offensive versatility.

Head coach Dawn Staley praised her team’s depth and chemistry after the game. “I’m very confident with the entire roster,” Staley said. “They play well together, prepare well, and are finding their stride. They genuinely want each other to succeed.”

This victory marked South Carolina’s first-ever win over Oklahoma in women’s basketball and solidified the Gamecocks’ status as one of the top teams in the nation. With their only loss coming to UCLA in November, South Carolina continues to dominate opponents with a combination of depth, defense, and teamwork.

Up next, South Carolina faces a highly anticipated showdown against undefeated LSU, ranked No. 4 in the country, on Thursday at Colonial Life Arena (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).
