Tuscaloosa, AL—-When the cameras cut to Nick Saban in the stands during last week’s game against South Florida, he was visibly frustrated. As were many Alabama fans during what turned out to be an early test. Alabama led by a single point (14-13) heading into the final quarter. They were eventually able to pull away in a final score of 42-10, that doesn’t tell the true story of the game.
Against Wisconsin in the following week, Saban and fans alike had a reason to smile.
Jalen Milroe has been shaking the rust off week by week and his performance against Wisconsin was more of the same. Milroe was responsible for five total touchdowns, throwing for three and running for two. Milroe has accounted for 14 total touchdowns in his first three games.
In the post-game interview Milroe placed all of the praise on his offensive line. “Those guys are the foundation of the offense,” he said. “We go as far as they go.” With a healthy offensive line to throw behind, Milroe spread the ball around, hitting Ryan Williams, Germie Bernard, and Josh Cuevas, each for touchdowns.
Jam Miller made his touches count, gaining 71 yards on the ground on 9 carries and a touchdown.
For Wisconsin, losing Tyler Van Dyke on the very first series of the game completely changed the complexion of their offense. Backup Braedyn Locke had no answers for the Alabama defense and averaged an insignificant 4.8 yards per completion, finishing 13/26 for 125 yards and a touchdown to Will Pauling.
Overall, Alabama’s defense had a strong showing, forcing four fumbles and holding Wisconsin to under 300 yards (290) of total offense.
Alabama will look to take full advantage of the upcoming bye week before they face a hungry Georgia team, looking to 3-peat.
