Bronx, NY— The Tampa Bay Rays’ offense finally came alive Sunday afternoon in the Bronx, erupting for a season-high-tying 16 hits to defeat the New York Yankees 7-5 and put an end to their eight-game streak of scoring four runs or fewer.

Jonathan Aranda led the charge with a solo home run and a two-run single, helping Tampa Bay string together back-to-back wins after a four-game losing streak. Batting in the ninth spot, Taylor Walls went 4-for-4, while Travis Jankowski, Yandy Díaz, and Aranda each chipped in three hits. Brandon Lowe added a two-run single, and rookie Chandler Simpson showed off his wheels, scoring all the way from second base on an infield dribbler.

Right-hander Taj Bradley (3-2) delivered 5 1/3 solid innings, limiting the Yankees to two runs on four hits to end a personal three-game winless stretch.

The Yankees made a late push but couldn’t overcome early defensive miscues and quiet bats. Cody Bellinger blasted his 200th career home run, a two-run shot in the sixth that trimmed the Rays’ lead to 5-2. Rookie Jorbit Vivas added his first MLB hit—a two-run single—in a three-run eighth inning that made things interesting.

Still, Tampa Bay closer Pete Fairbanks slammed the door in the ninth, striking out the side to remain perfect in eight save opportunities this season.

New York starter Will Warren (1-2) struggled with command and defense behind him. He allowed five runs—three earned—on seven hits and three walks across 4 2/3 innings while striking out eight. Costly errors from shortstop Oswald Peraza and catcher J.C. Escarra, along with a misplayed fly ball by left fielder Jasson Domínguez, helped the Rays build an early cushion.

Pivotal Moment:
In the third inning, with two on and no outs, Yankees slugger Aaron Judge grounded into a double play, snuffing out a potential rally. Judge, who is hitting an MLB-best .423, extended his on-base streak to 30 games with a double earlier in the game.

By the Numbers:
Aranda’s homer was his first since his dramatic walk-off blast against these same Yankees on April 19, when the Rays rallied from a four-run ninth-inning deficit.

What’s Next:

  • Rays: Return home Tuesday as RHP Drew Rasmussen (1-2, 3.64 ERA) takes the mound against Phillies ace Zack Wheeler (2-1, 3.48 ERA).
  • Yankees: Begin a new series Monday with LHP Carlos Rodón (4-3, 3.43 ERA) facing the Padres’ Nick Pivetta (5-1, 1.78 ERA.)
