Its been two years since Philadelphia’s world famous Dell Music Center had its doors closed to the public due to the wrath of COVID. Tonight, we were welcomed back to the liberating essence of live entertainment.

Energetic vibes and ambient exuberance were felt throughout the outdoor amphitheater. Together, with the sea of beautiful music lovers of all fashions, its summer concert series was a family reunion geared for a party like no other.

Philly’s own Comedian Skeet Carter and WDAS 103.5 radio personality Patty Jackson took to the stage warming up the crowd, setting the intro for the evening’s curtain raisers R&B’s “Charm City” serenaders Dru Hill.

Opening with a rendition of Jodeci’s “Stay” laying down their sexy swag, the B’more crooners took it old school with blazing classics “Sleeping In My Bed” “Beauty” and ballad “5 Steps”.

The symphonious quartet slow-wined the set with their version of  D’Angelo’s alluring single “How Does It Feel” and Tevin Campbell’s “Can We Talk” romancing the ladies effortlessly while closing with Sisqo’s turn-up smash hit “Thong Song” bringing down the house.

Next on the star-studded lineup were the soulful sisters of NYC SWV hitting the stage with smooth jams “Use Your Heart” and “Right Here” taking fans back to reminiscent days.

Their sweet tunes spun into an all out celebration with classic hits “Anything” “You’re The One” and “I’m So Into You” having admirers jumping out their seats getting their two-step on.

The silky ladies laced their angelic tones on ballads “You’re Always On My Mind” “Rain” and “Man Crush” before belting out their remake of timeless Switch favorite “There’ll Never Be” ending with treasured masterpiece “Weak”, best describing the insatiableness of this next artist.

The grand finale was none other than the incomparable Tank. His gravitating sex appeal made the women at The Dell Center melt like butter while driving the men to grab a hold a little tighter.

“The General” kicked off his fierce set with the explosive “She Wit The S***” delivering magnetic volts throughout the entire venue. Once he got into his erogenous zone, he tamed it just enough to surrender an emotional “I Deserve” unveiling his heartfelt vocals from there on it was full blown Red light special.

He provocatively took control with “F***king With Me” and “When We” before revealing his softer side to a remake of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” gently stroking organ keys for his final performance.

The Dell Music Center productions have always been fabulously orchestrated. The reopening summer concert series Essence of Entertainment showcase was inevitably a phenomenal event thus far.
