Newark, N.J. — The surge continued for the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday night, as a disciplined, opportunistic performance powered a 3–1 road victory over the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center.
After a scoreless opening stretch, New Jersey struck first midway through the opening period, but Buffalo responded with authority in the second. Josh Norris evened the game early in the middle frame, and Zach Benson delivered the decisive goal late in the period, breaking the deadlock and tilting momentum firmly toward the visitors.
Buffalo’s defensive structure tightened after taking the lead, limiting New Jersey’s looks and forcing low-percentage chances. Peyton Krebs sealed the outcome with an empty-netter in the final minutes, punctuating the Sabres’ sixth consecutive win and their eighth victory in 11 outings.

Goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen anchored the effort with a steady 17-save performance, turning aside several quality chances down the stretch to protect the one-goal advantage. His calm presence proved crucial as New Jersey pushed for an equalizer.
The Devils welcomed back Jack Hughes, who returned after missing 18 games following hand surgery. Hughes provided an immediate spark, scoring in the first period in his season debut since mid-November. Despite his return and a solid showing from goaltender Jake Allen, New Jersey couldn’t generate enough offense to match Buffalo’s efficiency.
Timo Meier also rejoined the Devils lineup after a brief leave of absence, adding another boost to a roster still searching for consistency.
