San Antonio Hands The Defenders Its First Loss Of The Season

Washington, DC—-Kellen Mond connected with Greg Ward on a 9-yard touchdown pass to help the San Antonio Brahmas earn their first win of the season, defeating the previously unbeaten D.C. Defenders 24-18 on Sunday in Washington.

San Antonio (1-3) jumped out to a fast start, taking a 12-0 lead in the first quarter. Aidan Robbins opened the scoring with the first of his two rushing touchdowns, and Mathew Sexton electrified the game with an 83-yard punt return for another score.

D.C. (3-1) battled back, cutting the deficit to 18-12 by halftime. Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu tied the game with a 7-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter, though the conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

Mond delivered the decisive blow with his touchdown strike to Ward with 5:56 left in the third, sealing the victory. He finished the game 14 of 20 for 121 yards, throwing no interceptions. Ta’amu posted strong numbers in the loss, completing 19 of 31 passes for 300 yards and a 39-yard touchdown to Briley Moore-McKinney. He also led all rushers with 74 yards on 10 carries.
