Prudential Center–Seton Hall is on an eight-game winning streak, the longest in the Big East and the fifth-longest in the nation behind San Diego State (19), Baylor (14), Gonzaga (11), and Florida State (9).
This week, the Hall is ranked at No.10 in the AP-Top 25, its first time in the top-10 since being ranked eighth on Dec.19, 2000.
The Pirates are now 7-0 in the Big East and 4-0 in Big East road games for the first time in the school’s history. Only 10 times in the first 40 seasons of the Big East has the Hall finished a conference season with four or more road wins.
Tonight’s matchup will be the 106th all-time meeting between Seton Hall and Providence. PC is Seton Hall’s third most-played opponent in program history behind only Georgetown (109) and Villanova (118). The Pirates now have tied the series at 53.
The Friars’ last win in Newark was a 79-66 win on March 4, 2015.
The Pirates have won six of their last eight games against the Friars and six games in that span have been decided by single digits.
The Pirates (15-4) got another stellar game for Romaro Gill had 17 points and set a career-best with eight blocks to help No.10 Seton Hall slide past Providence 73-64 at the Prudential Center in front of 9,267.
Quincy McKnight had 11 points and eight assists. And Jared Rhoden had 15 points and eight boards, including some key buckets in the second half.
“I think we’re showing everybody across the country that we’re not just the Myles Powell show,” Powell said.
With Romaro anchoring the paint and blocking shots, the Pirates raced out to 8-4 lead at the 15:38 mark.
Gill was having his way with back cuts rolling to the baskets in the first half. Seton Hall scored six unanswered points to lead 22-19 with 8:23 left to go before the break.
The game was going back and forth with runs but the Pirates closed the first half strong with 6-0 run and 36-32 lead going into the break.
The Pirates went on an 8-2 run to take a 63-54 lead with 5:56 left to play in the game.
The Friars (11-9) got to striking distance a few times but couldn’t get any closer than five points down the stretch. Myles Powell sealed the game at the foul line.
Alpha Diallo had 13 points for Providence and Nate Watson chipped in 10 points and four boards.
The Pirates was 26-for-45 (57.8%) from the floor for the game, while the Friars was 23-for-6 (35.9%). Providence shooting woes hurt them down the stretch.
“We are doing the little things to win the ball games. Everyone is going hard at practice every day, so everyone wants to do the little things to help us win. We are not just happy to win, we know have a lot of more work to do, “Gill said.
