Newark, NJ—After an opening night spanking of Monmouth on Wednesday, Seton Hall returned to the hardwood to play against coach Shaheen Holloway’s former team the St. Peter’s Peacocks.

Seton Hall (2-0) beat St. Peter’s (1-1) 80-44 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey in front of an announced crowd of 9,488.

Pirates Dre Davis and Al-Amir Dawes both scored 13 points with Dawes getting his first double-double 10 rebounds to add to his stat line.

Holloway has never started a season 2-0 in four seasons as a head coach, now that stat can be amended.

The last meeting between the two New Jersey universities was Dec. 12, 2017 inside of Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, an 84-61 win for the Pirates.

Holloway was 44-32 against MAAC play in four seasons in Jersey City, including three consecutive seasons with double-digit conference wins for the first time since the early 1980s.

The Pirates are now 82-11 all-time at the Prudential Center against non-conference opponents and has won their last 13 games against non-league foes at the Rock.

Seton Hall went on a quick 4-0 and went up 16-12 at 11:55 mark by a long three by Kadary Richmond on the right elbow. Al-Amir Dawes is a complete player and creates opportunities for the Pirates whenever their offense is not quite in sync. Pirates went on another run this time it was 11-0 and got up 24-12 at the 7:26 mark.

The Peacocks took a few leads early in the first half, but the Pirates’ defense gave them  problems in the paint area which enable them to doubled up on St. Peter’s  24-12 at 7:47 left in the half. By the break, the Hall were up 36-23.

The Pirates ramped up their defense pressure and it disrupted the offensive flow of the Peacocks in the second half, they started to turn over the ball which made for easy transition buckets going the other way in the half.

“This was a great experience for us playing against our old team. We put a lot of years into that university and it was just a great experience,” KC Ndefo said. “We handled it well. Took care of business. They’re a very good team. We were looking forward to this game and we executed the game plan.”

Jamir Harris alley-ooped a pass to Tyrese Samuel on the right wing, who rocked the rim with 16:44 left in the contest. It gave the Pirates a 44-23 advantage, and squashed any hopes of a upset.

“I had no emotion,” Holloway said. “I went about it just like playing another team and I’m here today. That’s not my thing. That was last year and we did what we did and now I’m here and I gotta do what I do here. ”
