Seton Hall Takes Care Of St. John’s At Walsh Gym 57- 46

South Orange, NJ—-Seton Hall wants you to put some respect by their name because they are making some noise in the Big East and they are coming.

The Pirates jumped out to a 9-3 lead before St. John’s responded with a 6-0 run, forcing three turnovers in the process. By the end of the first quarter, Seton Hall held a 15-11 advantage.

In the second quarter, St. John’s closed the period on a 7-0 run over the final 1:11, holding the Pirates scoreless for the last 3:52.

At halftime, the game was knotted at 24-24. Ber’Nyah Mayo led St. John’s with seven points at the break, while the Johnnies dominated the rebounding battle with a 27-13 advantage.

However, turnovers kept the Pirates in the game, as they forced St. John’s into 13 first-half miscues. SHU struggled from the field, shooting just 29% (9-of-31). Yaya Lops paced the Pirates with seven points in the opening half.

St. John’s opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run in just under two minutes mark, taking a 39-30 lead. The Hall responded with a 6-0 spurt, cutting the deficit to three at 39-36 with 28.6 seconds left in the period.

The Pirates then carried their momentum into the fourth, extending their run to 9-0 to reclaim the lead at 47-43. Their defense tightened, holding St. John’s scoreless for 2:30, and they capitalized by making four of their last five shots.

Ultimately, Seton Hall pulled away for a 57-46 victory. Faith Masonius led the Pirates with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Savannah Catalon added 12 points, four boards along with six steals making a strong defensive impact.

Ber’ Nyah Mayo led St. John’s with 18 points and three assists.

Seton Hall’s defense was the difference, forcing 23 turnovers that led to 25 points, along with 12 second-chance points that helped them secure the win.
